Sponsored by Be A Mentor, Inc. a non-profit community-based organization for youth, Hayward Schools Mentoring Project serves at-risk, underperforming middle school students by connecting them with adult volunteers.
HOW DOES MENTORING MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
"I have cleaned beaches and scoured streets for trash. Yet deep down I needed something more, a true connection to my volunteerism. After reading about the Be A Mentor program, I felt an immediate connection. I recalled when I was a teenager and how I yearned for a stable adult role model in my life, someone who wasn�t a fictional character but as tangible as the ground I walked on. Being a mentor is challenging and yes at times work, but it is also highly rewarding and fun."
